Toys Anxiety

My dog (a Viszla) has seperation anxiety. What are some techniques in alleviating this? Is it the breed?
He is crated for about 7 hours a day. I put a Kong (with peanut butter)in his crate so he has something to do when we leave. there are also other chew toys placed in there for him. It is a metal crate (a large breed size) and he tries to get out, chewing and bending the metal–it is our second crate in 14 months. He is almost 2 years old. Any advice or tips would be appreciated.
The breed is fairly clingy from what I understand. He’s a good dog otherwise
Make sure he pees and poops before going in the crate and give him as much exercise as possible before crating. I’m not familar with the breed but with my rat terrior I used Comfort Zone spray with D.A.P. I only had to use it twice but he doesn’t stay in the crate for long periods usually. It also comes in a plug-in form like air freshners. There’s some excellent advice on crating at the site below. Go to crate training. It will be easier for you to read it yourself and see what if any you can use. I also made a cover my my dogs crate and I leave the TV on when I’m gone to keep him company but not too loud. I bought one of those cat cubes and put in his crate. I think he feels more cozy in it like he would in a den in the wild. Depends on the size of your dog whether or not you could try this. My RT is about 10 pounds. You might need to reduse the size of your crate. Hope some of this helps.
