Travel Anxiety Medication For Dogs

Quick question about dogs and…?
Okay so I need ‘calming’ medication for a 8 pound dog. She has anxiety with traveling and stuff and the vet says to buy ”…calming medication or medicine that helps her relax.” Well,he didn’t say WHAT one to buy and it’s hard to find something for her since she’s so small. She has to ride about 10 hours in her travel cage, she’ll be let out to stretch,go to the bathroom and to eat and drink, but she cries every single time she gets put in any cage. Considering she’ll be so close, she’ll be in the backseat of a Camry,we can’t have her crying all 10 hours. No,she will not stop until she gets out of the cage and she won’t hold still if she rides loose. Thanks.
We asked the vet to recommend something but he couldn’t because she is so small.
She’s my moms dog and my mom picked the vet. I personally don’t like how he does things but I can’t make her change vets.
Consider buying a car harness for her instead of a cage, if cages are what make her anxious.
While she’s in the car, provide a tasty bone like a Nylabone Healthy Edibles bone. (Avoid rawhide, pigs’ ears or Greenies. They can’t be digested.) You can also give her a Kong toy, stuffed with whatever she likes best. (Peanut butter, yogurt, kibble, treats, use your imagination.)
Rub some lavender on her collar. It won’t be a magic fix, but studies have shown that lavender does indeed have a calming effect on animals, including humans and dogs. For instance, babies in lavender-scented rooms tend to fuss less and sleep more soundly than babies without the scent.
Purchase Rescue Remedy. I know several people who have used it successfully. It’s a flower essence concoction, humans, dogs and cats can use it. It’s harmless, but tends to help relax the user.
Purchase a DAP collar or spray. DAP stands for Dog Appeasing Pheromone, it mimics the pheromone that a nursing dam produces to calm her litter. It’s been found to work well with adult dogs, too.
Playful pup pleases Parker!
