Valium Anxiety Tablets
Can you mix benzodiazepines with a Beta Blocker?

I have been prescribed with both Valium and the Beta Blocker (atenolol). Both are for my anxiety and panic disorder. However they were prescribed by two different doctors and i failed to ask if they can be safely combined.

I have a very nerve racking moment coming up and only have 1 (5mg) valium tablet left which I’m worrying won’t sedate me enough. The Beta Blocker has always helped calm my heart beat down in the past.

Would it be ok to combine a tablet of each to help me better cope with the situation?? Please help me!!! I’m desperate!

benzodiazepines work quickly and have a shorter half life and the beta blocker has a longer half life…both should be taken as prescribed and not stopped abruptly! you should call your doc before you do anything, but in the meantime you can call your pharmacist. i would not “combine” the meds as i don’t think it would help your situation…best of luck.

personal example:
i take 50mg of atenolol in am for mitral valve prolapse and .5mg xanax as needed (every 4 hours) for anxiety
