Is weight gain a side effect of anti anxiety medication?

I have been diagnosed with anxiety disorder. I don’t have to take meds, but it sounds like I might need to. Do anxiety meds make you gain weight? I think I’d have more anxiety if I gained weight.

Many people like to blame thier weight gain on the meds but the reality is that weight gain is caused by overeating. Once you start taking the medication, just keep close tabs on your weight. If you gain more than 3 pounds, make an adjustment. Either eat less or exercise more. Also, keep track of what you are eating. You may find that you have more of a craving for sweet foods. (That has been my problem. To combat that problem I have bought and exercise bike.) These medication often make it easier for people to gain weight, however, it is a simple equation of intake = output. If you consume more calories than you burn you will gain weight.
