I’m glad you have finally realized this, well done. Umm i myself am on fluoxetine which is under Prozac i find it extremely good and i do think it can also help many cases of anxiety, but i’d go to your Doctor and see what he suggests.
    Good luck.

my daughter is on Zoloft and seems to be doing ok but her dosage may need to be higher. If you are a teen it will depend on the dr. if they will put you on a high dosage. her dr will not right yet b/c her age and she is 15.

Lexapro worked for me, but Effexor also works for me. Prozac was not helpful. Klonopin worked for anxiety. Xanax didn’t work for anxiety. Everyone is different. Some antidepresents will actually make GAD worse.

I take generic Wellbutrin SR (150 mg) in the morning, and Lexapro (10 mg) with dinner, for depression and anxiety. I’ve been taking that for over two years, and it’s working very well for me.

The Wellbutrin SR seems to help me to be more alert and active – and wanting to do things – while the Lexapro makes me more mellow, and it helps me sleep better, too. They are relatively low doses of each medication, which keeps side effects at a minimum. I really can’t tell I’m taking any medication at all.

Please do some research on benefits for following for Depression:
    - Multivitamins
    - Vitamin B-Complex
    - Omega-3 Fish Oils

I am Managing my own depression using above remedy. They are all available without prescription.

Seeing Doctor and trying Anti depressants is also a good idea, but depending upon people those medications can have side effects. For me above remedy gave better results than Anti-depressants.

Seeing doctor for Anti-depressants is almost like treating yourself. The doctor will prescribe any medication that you ask him to. (Zoloft, Lexapro etc). It’s like trial and error and take serveral months to know what really works. You should do research on all the popular Anti-depressants drugs before seeing doctor.

I also take sleeping pills as necessary. I don’t recommend taking sleeping pill to others, but just sharing my personal experience. Lack of sleep really increase my depression and anxiety. So sleeping pill has also helped me a lot.

Also a good listener whom you can express your problems can be helpful to relieve your stress. If you want to express your problems you can write to me too.

I have the EXACT same problem. I’m on Lexapro, Topomax, Hydroxizine HCL and something else that I don’t know the name of. Lexapro is great, it caused me to gain weight though so we added Topomax which suppressed my appetite and helped me lose most of the weight I gained. Hydroxizine is for my anxiety. That doesn’t need to be taken everyday, that can be taken when I know I’m going to enter a stressful environment or at the onset of an anxiety attack. I personally recommend all 3 of them. Best of luck to you.

Edit: I read some of the other answers….don’t take Prozac, Prozac sucks!!!
