What can you tell me about Generalized Anxiety Disorder?

alyssa asked:

Would the nausea & insomnia that I have been experiencing for months on end be signs of this?

I am always worrying, but I never would think that it could lead to physical side effects. Should I talk to my doctor about it?

Generalized anxiety disorder will definitely cause these physical symptoms. You should speak to your doctor about it.

Anxiety can totally have physical and mental side effects. I have had anxiety since I was 14 when I randomly couldn’t sleep for about 3 days. Ever since then I have had pervasive physical problems due to anxiety. My heart will beat quickly, I’ll feel really hot and nauseas. It can be really strange, like my hands will tingle and become numb. And those are just a few issues! It has a huge impact on the body and it’s often coexisting with other mental and health problems, such as depression, because these things can cause each other. Like, you’ll feel stressed because you’re depressed, and you’ll be depressed because your stressed! But you can just have anxiety alone, and there are all kinds. There is generalized anxiety disorder, and there are other kinds, such as social anxiety, OCD, and phobias. Anyone can feel anxious but when it begins to severely impact your day-to-day life, you can identify the issues as a condition.

    You should check out gad.about.com

It’s a great site. But, anyway, I have GAD. I’ve been experiencing symptoms of it my entire life. Can’t sleep at night, panic attacks for no reason.. to be diagnosed with GAD you have to have the symptoms for over 6 months I believe. But yeah, talk to your doctor. I’m alot happier that I did..
