What is it like living with social anxiety?

I have been diagnosed with clinical depression, but it’s been untreated. I’ve been thinking for years that I might have social anxiety, because when I read the symptoms some I agree with – but I’m not sure if it’s just another lovely facet of depression or really something else.

Question: does it count as social anxiety when you feel ‘okay’ in public when you are with someone you know/familiar with?

It can be very difficult. Being in public places can be a real chore, you feel anxious and weary of people. You don’t want anyone to get to close to you or talk to you….but everyone is different and mental illnesses manifest themselves differently in different people. I’m sure there are some people who suffer from it who feel “okay” when they are with a familiar person, personally I always feel anxious, I just try to plan out my course as much as I can so I don’t have to linger too long and deal.

You can overcome anything if you put your mind to it. Seven years ago i had a nervous break down. I managed to overcame it and am now better than ever.

I typically get anxiety around people I don’t know or when I have to talk in front of a group of people. Here are a list of common anxiety symptoms.

Im no doctor but i think i have social anxiety. I can’t talk to people outside of my comfort zone. I always think someone is judging me when i say something, especially girls. I’m way more comfortable, even goofy in public with my cousin, or uncle. I don’t worry about it but when they are gone i just semi-smile and agree to avoid any further conversation from strangers.
Its bad because i know no one is really judging me, but for some reason some piece of me tells me they are.
