What is the best medication for social anxiety with least amount of weight gain?

Drugs work differently on all people. Some people may not experience weight gain while taking Lexapro. Ask your doctor to switch you to anotehr SSRI, like Prozac or Zoloft. One of those may work just as well as Lexapro but without some of the side effects.

I take Abilify, Zoloft and 300 mg of Wellbutrin for social anxiety. Also, I take Adavan as needed for anxiety situations. Wellbutrin at 300 mg gives me a lot of energy and decreased my appetite. I am always on the go, yet with the Adavan, I sleep well. Maybe you could try increasing the dosage of Wellbutrin and it may be of more help to you. I find that doctors are not at all concerned about weight gain problems. If you continue to gain weight from Lexapro, change medications before you get to 200 lbs. I gained 50 pounds from Elavil before I realized what was happening. I was in a trance like state for months. My doctor was not concerned at all about the weight gain, so I went off the Elavil on my own. Good Luck with your medications.
You have just opened a new window to my mind. I have been studying the weight gain problem of Americans versus the slim appearance of the people of South America. It is clearly the nerve pill industry to blame. Almost all out farm animals are now on sedation and growth medication as part of the blended feeds. We in turn are getting this stuff in us . My libido is down too from what it should be for everyday use. Thanks for showing us the way.
Oh and don’t count on meds to remove social anxiety for more than a few weeks . It will come back with a blast. Valium is made from the herb Valeria and I took it for social anxiety. Soon my whole mind collapsed into a severe psychosis as my resistance to disorder was altered for the worse.
PROZAC WOULD DO THE TRICK, BUT YOU REALLY NEED TO DISCUS THIS MATTER WITH YOUR DR.
my opinion would be busbar.But do a search on all psych medications for social anxiety and side effects will be your best bet and also ask a medical doctors and psych doctors views on it and if u are currently in counselor speak to your counselor with your psych doctor.
It depends on how anxious you normally get. Panic attack or not? Most of anti-anxiety pills give you extra pounds. There’s nothing wrong about good appetite. If u don’t like the fact of weight gain, consult your doctor for appropriate dosage reduce. 2 years is a long time for Lexapro. Either stop it completely or stick to it. On and off mess up your system. Seek counseling if you want to completely stop meds. Find a good LCPC or psychologist who has more than 10 years of experience and expecialized in anxiety treatment.
