What medications help with social anxiety? I know that there are a lot of anti-anxiety drugs but I am looking for any that specifically help with social anxiety.
And I’m not interested in alternative methods other than medications. I already know of all of them.

Zoloft is specifically for social anxiety as well as range of others. Good Luck.

Lexapro, which is usually used for depression, works for some people

low doses of certain benzos like diazepam(valium) or xanax can have a “loosening” effect on the user. almost somewhat like the effect alcohol has socially except without making you a stumbling moron.

    COFFEE HELPS ME.

    CAN’T AFFORD MEDICATION.

BUT I’VE ALSO HEARD CAFEIENE CONTRIBUTES TO ANXIETY IN SOME PEOPLE.

SOCIAL ANXIETY BRANCHES OUT FROM ANXIETY. IT’S JUST ONE OF THE FEW DEPARTMENTS OF YOUR LIFE THAT YOUR ANXIETY ALTERS IN A NEGATIVE WAY.

    HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER :)

SSRI antidepressants can all help to alleviate the symptoms of social anxiety. Of these, paroxetine has been the most studied, and was the first to obtain a licence for this condition. Another antidepressant, moclobemide is also licenced for social phobia/anxiety, although is not used much these days. Venlafaxine, an SNRI antidepressant can be helpful, and I’ve seen references to the benzodiazepine, clonazepam being used, albeit very rarely.

Welbutrin, Paxil, Zoloft, Effexor, Prozac, Xannax or alprazolam (more for panic disorders)

Really there are dozens of meds and even more generic brands. Most medicines that also treat depression have been shown to aid in dealing with anxiety. While I would say that medication should be a last resort, you really need to consult your doctor or therapist to discuss the various medications, their potential benefits as well as their risks. Some of these meds will really react badly if you take in lots of stimulants or drink alcohol. Some are not good if you suffer from diabeaties or are taking MOI inhibitors. Some react to over counter medications and others are not to be taken by some prone to seizures – so talk to your doctor.

The worse way to deal with anxiety is through alcohol or self medicating through drugs (even the persription kind) drugs are only part of the therapy and to really overcome social anxiety (to ultimately take away the need for drugs), other options is where you should look to. Otherwise you’ll spend years numb and not being able to feel much and gradually taking higher and higher doses of medicine as you gain a tollerance to them.

most presciption drugs are not that explicit they are mainly general answers for use shorterm and can be very addictive, stick with alternatives
