George Maier asked:
I have panic attacks regularly – very regularly – And sometimes after a bad dream, I wake up and I’m unable to breathe, this may sound stupid, but I pass out after having a bad dream sometimes, in the very unnatural way. This is often on my bedroom floor. I was wondering what my GP would actually be able to do for me?

Not much I suppose ..
You can cure your panic attacks naturally though ..

More general practitioners prescribe psychotropic medication than psychiatrists. The reason is there are more of them. It depends on how liberal your doctor is if he will prescribe a benzo or not.
If you have a decent GP , that you tell all this to, the way you have here, then I would say at the least you would get a referral to a sleep disorder clinic, but you will probably just get socked with somekind of antianxiety or antidepressant… and i dont think that is what this sounds like…
It sounds like you have a sleep disorder, which can effect the breathing and sleeping.. now, that could be coming out of hormonal imbalances (YES) , and you really should ask your GP to test your TSH (thyroid) which can cause this, ;your sex, adrenal, cortisol, and DHEAS levels, and then get a copy of the results for your records, then ask an expert like those below to help you interpret them and balance them, if needed…. guys go thru this also….
Most people dont know that hormones are often at the root of so called mental illness….and there are more doctors beginning to test them with pressure from the public and other knowledgable doctors…
Also, all of this , could be based in deficiencies in vitamins, like D, minerals, autoimmune illnesses, adrenal function (and hormones), and other things, like , yes, food allergies, metal toxicity, chemicxal allergies… etc…
It can also be the side effects of certain medications, like the anticholesterol meds, antidepressants, etc… because we are not told to take CO Q10, an enzyme to replace what the anticholesterols take out of trhe heart tissue, etc etc…,
So, a comprehensive evaluation , like at PNP in dallas, texas by dr lawlis , see below, may be the best thing you could do in the long run, and save some money and time….. if you are able to do that
take care
PS you could also EFT all these symptoms and anything bothering you for free, and see if you need anything after that, it is very effective
He/She will most likely prescribe you a benzo, which includes xanax, valium or ativan(lorazepam, diazepam, alprazalom). Those are the most common medications that will help almost immediately with panic and anxiety. He may tell you to seek a psychiatrist or therapist to help also.
Lot’s of folks have been asking about the various treatment programs online for treating anxiety and panic attacks. I put up a little blog site to help people determine what product may work best for them. Please visit the Treatment Review Page at. Good Luck with finding the Help you need.
