Peter Jackson asked:

Is it true that the number of children-teens-adults on the autism spectrum are more likely to have phobias than typical people? Do you suppose the number of autistic people with phobias are far greater than typical people? Are there any myths / legends / possible connections / mysteries about people with autism and irrational phobias? I know there autistic people have phobias that can associate with sensory overload. Is it true that the number of people who have irrational phobias on the most random things are more likely to have autism or autism-related symptoms? Tell me what you know!

My brother is autistic and he is afraid of lightning bugs. We cannot tell him that they won’t hurt him, since he does not understand what we say. I don’t really know if autistic people have more phobias than other people. Actually, my brother is not afraid of some things that he should fear, since he does not understand. He has no fear of bees, wasps, or snakes, but he is afraid of butterflies.
