Where can I get meds for social anxiety other than my family doctor?

I do not feel comfortable going to my family doctor for my social anxiety issue. Is there somewhere else that I can go other than a family doctor? I don’t know the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist. Would both be able to help? I am interested in starting on meds.
Thanks.

You would need to see a psychiatrist for medication. Depending on insurance though, you may need a referral from your family doctor. Also, they may want you to see a psychologist as well.

Psychiatrist – prescribes medication for mental illness
Psychologist- a “shrink” or therapist. Someone who cannot prescribe medication. Someone you “talk about your problems” with.

well you pretty much have to see a doctor to get medication but if you dont want to see your family doc try a clinic or something

If it is meds you want then you need to see a psychiatrist….. although you should be going to a psychologist for therapy if you are on meds….
