b/c that’s what they do
Smoking cigarettes cuts off some circulation to your brain and thus creates a calming effect. It temporarily gets you “high” and relaxed.
its all in your head
Cigarettes contains nicotine that inhibits the binding site of endorphins hence calming you down.
Endogenous endorphins on the other hand get depressed and thats why withdrawal comes about.
Because nicotine is a depressant, it “depresses” your emotions in a sense. Thus making you more calm like.
because it destroys your serotin
Nicotine is actually has anti-depressent effects. You also get all the other great effects with it to.
They say its the tabacco + nicotene but really i think its all just a placebo effect. Its all in your head. If you really want to NOT use cigaretttes then stop. Just take a deep breath to calm down.
This has been studied a lot and nicotine really does calm people down. You are right that it is unhealthy to use smoking as a way to treat anxiety. See your doctor and explain your problem. They can prescribe antianxiety meds to help you with the panic attacks. Best of luck to you!
doesnt get my high ….but its like one thing other than a girl tht can clam me down … its all in ur mind if u think tht it is clamming u down well n gud
I am in the same boat! Although cigerettes can increase your heart rate(doing NOTHING to actually calm you), I think it is the actual inhaling part of it that calms you down. I don’t want to smoke either, but sometimes a deep breath is not enough!!!
your body stop worrying about that just let it happen or keep smoking and die early
It is not the cigarettes it is way we breathe slower and more relaxed deep breaths when smoking.
Nicotine does this too you. It stimlulates chemical receptors in your brain to make you feel calmer. After time, the brain becomes more dependant on nicotine to feel the same way again… thus the addiction. Your brain will actually “panic” when it doesn’t get its usual dosage of nicotine. You also have trained yourself to smoke in stressful situations, so you associate the action with relief of stress. The best thing to do is just deal with the “panic attacks” until nicotine leaves your system. This takes a couple of weeks to maybe over a month, depending on how long and how much you’ve smoked. Once you get past this point, it’s easier to deal with stress without the aid of cigs.
The problem with substatuting something for nicotine is you’ll just become addicted to that. Caffine can have a relaxing affect on people also. One thing that helped me quite in the past was excercise. When your starting to panic, instead of reaching through the pack, go jogging (if you can) or do push ups or something. The urge usually passes in a few minutes, and excercise releases adrenaline into your system which can help you block out the source of the stress momentarily, until you come down after you stop excercising, when your brain will be calmer and less affected by the stress.
it’s the puffing and you get distracted, focusing on the cigarette. smoking doesn’t calm down, on the contrary, it raises blood pressure, heart beat, and makes you more nervous than calm…you can breathe into a bag instead
or do 20 push ups
go for a walk, talk to someone, you need to focus on something and get your mind distracted, force your thoughts into another direction, my daughter has panic attacks when under pressure
